On Tuesday evening, March 8, members of the Solanco Girls Lacrosse Club got help from members of Millersville University's varsity team. The training has become an annual event, SGLC head coach Doug Dalrymple said. "They come in during their spring break to give our girls some help with their skills," he said. "The Millersville Women's Lacrosse team, under the guidance of Head Coach Mia Hall and Assistant Coach Brooke Fisher, have provided instruction for our club over the past several years. They help our girls learn and grow the great game of lacrosse locally. The MU student athletes are true ambassadors for lacrosse and are tremendous role models for our young ladies," he said.
The local club got its start in 2009 with half a dozen middle school girls. This year, the club will field two teams. The middle school team will compete in the Lancaster Area Girls Lacrosse Association and the high school team will be playing a non-PIAA schedule. The club has more than 30 players for the 2016 season. The players practice on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The high school girls practice from 3 to 5 p.m. and the middle school players practice from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The outdoor practices will be held on Solanco High School's fourth soccer field. The middle school players will open their season on April 2 and will play every Saturday through May 14. "They will have two games each day," Dalrymple said. The high school team will also play two games on April 2. Their regular season games will be on Sundays. They are also trying to schedule games on Wednesdays. "I would love to have both teams play on Saturdays, but we don't have enough coaches," Dalrymple said. Anyone interested in joining the club should email Dalrymple at swiftcloudfarm@gmail.com. "We're always looking for new players and we encourage any girl interested in lacrosse to get in touch with us," he said. Comments are closed.
