The Solanco Lacrosse Club hosted a Lancaster Area Girls Lacrosse Association tournament Saturday, April 12, at Solanco High. Thirty teams representing 14 programs played a total of 22 games. Teams from Lampeter-Strasburg, York (York Irish), Cocalico, Wilson, Warwick, Conestoga Valley, Ephrata, Penn Manor, Garden Spot, Elizabethtown, Cedar Crest, Hempfield, Lancaster Country Day, and Solanco participated in the event.
"The LAGLA (Lancaster Area Girls Lacrosse Association) is a developmental lacrosse association," said the Solanco Lacrosse Club's Doug Dalrymple. "Scoring is not tracked at all levels of play (3rd grade through 8th grade). We have a very difficult time arranging games for our high school "club" girls team. Since we are not PIAA nor a Solanco varsity sport we are not permitted to play Lancaster-Lebanon League teams. So LAGLA permits us to play under an exemption, playing the best 7th/8th grade teams in LAGLA. Our high school team plays at the level of an Lancaster-Lebanon junior varsity team." LAGLA's season runs from early April through mid to late May, on five Saturdays. Hosting duties rotate to five different locations. This year those sites in order are Manhiem Township, Solanco, Hempfield, Garden Spot and Cocalico. Each team plays two games per Saturday. In years past, Solanco has played at Penn Manor, Lancaster Country Day, Elizabethtown and Warwick. There are no rankings or championships awarded as in tournament play. Solanco will play in the Manheim Township "Rock the Cages" tournament on April 27-28. That tournament awards a championship at each team level, 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade and 7th/8th grade.
