The Solanco boys basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime then scored the first eight points of the extra session to nip Conestoga Valley 66-64 Saturday, December 29, in the consolation game of the Solanco Holiday Tournament. Dawson Kreider tallied a total of 12 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, including a clutch three-pointer with 15 seconds left in regulation. Zed Baker paced the Mules with 18 points, Kreider finished with 15. Zach Wiker supplied 12 points. CV led 48-38 entering the fourth quarter. Solanco scored the first four points of the period. Carson Kilgore converted an inbounds pass from Wiker then Baker had a steal and layup. After the Buckskins made a free throw, Colesen Sheaffer knocked down a three-pointer and Kilgore scored off an offensive rebound to narrow the gap to 49-47 with 5:23 remaining in regulation.
CV responded with four consecutive points before the Mules went on an eight-point run to take the lead. Kreider hit a pair of three-pointers and Baker scored on a driving layup to make it 55-53 with 2:05 to go. CV tallied four in a row to regain the lead, 57-55 with 33 seconds left. That's when Kreider came up big, draining a go-ahead three-pointer with 15 seconds to play. The Buckskins made one of two free throws with 9.1 seconds left and Solanco missed a potential game-winning three at the horn. In overtime, the Mules stormed out to a 66-58 lead. Sheaffer got things started with a three-pointer 13 seconds into the period. After Kreider made a free throw, Kilgore and Kreider scored to give the hosts an eight-point cushion with 1:23 remaining. The Mules did not score again, failing to convert the front end of two one-and-one opportunities. CV sliced the deficit down to 66-64. After the Mules missed a free throw with 3.7 seconds to go, CV, desperation shot from midcourt came up a several inches short, grazing the outside of the net. In the opening round of the tournament on Friday night, December 28, Solanco fell to Penn Manor 56-37. Kreider had 10 points to lead the Mules and Jalen Henry supplied seven. Comments are closed.
