Coach Chad McDowell has the softball junior varsity team rolling as they won all three games this past week to remain undefeated. On Monday, April 10, Solanco shut out the Ephrata Mountaineers 14-0 behind Skyla Townsley, who struck out 11, walked only one, and threw a five inning no-hitter. “Skyla had a very effective afternoon inside the circle,” said McDowell. “She threw strikes and had great control of her pitches.”
Offensively the Mules were led by Sierra Dean who went four-for-four with three singles and a home run. Desiree Dehaven went two-for-three and Townsley helped her own cause with a grand slam. Elizabethtown visited the pasture on Tuesday, April 11, and went back home after suffering a 16-6, six inning loss. This time Dean threw inside the circle going the distance. She struck out seven, walked two and allowed eight hits. “Sierra had good velocity and she moved the ball around the strike zone which kept the E-town hitters off balance at the plate,” said McDowell. ”She threw a nice game.” Dean can handle the bat as well. She went four-for-four, all doubles. Townsley supported the cause with two doubles, a triple, a home run and five RBI’s, and Noelle Schneider went two-for-four with a single, triple and two RBI’s. “Elizabethtown is a rivalry game for our JV team and we look forward to playing them each season,” added McDowell. “We have a lot of respect for their program.” On Wednesday, April 12, Conestoga Valley became the victim as the Mules saddled the Bucks with a 10-5 loss. Townsley went the distance striking out 11, walking only one and scattering three hits. “After a shaky couple of innings, I thought Skyla settled in nicely and threw well. She used the corners and hit her spots.” Townsley went three-for-five with two singles and a triple. Other Mules contributing to the offense were Gabby Sheets, Mackenzie Britigan, Tori Lawson and Dean who had a double and three RBI’s. “Coming off a big game against E-town the previous day, we were somewhat sluggish and made some physical and mental errors throughout the game,” added the coach. “We persevered through those mistakes to pick up the win. It was a great gut-check win for our JV program.” Comments are closed.
