by Bud Hart The Solanco junior varsity softball team continues to go undefeated winning three games this past week outscoring their opponents 38-7. On Monday, April 24, the Mules handed the Hempfield team a 12-2 five-inning loss with Sierra Dean working inside the circle walking two and striking out six while surrendering a mere four base hits. “Sierra was able to keep the Hempfield batters off balance all afternoon," said head coach Chad McDowell. “She moved the ball around the zone well.”
Dean helped her own cause at the plate going two for four with two runs batted in. Kelsey Sheets went three for four adding two stolen bases and two RBI’s. Both Gabby Sheets and Tori Lawson were credited with two-run doubles. Others contributing to the offense were Desiree DeHaven, Avrie Moeser and Skyla Townsley. DeHaven and Moeser also had a steal recorded. “Playing Hempfield is one of those games we circle on our schedule each year, “said McDowell. “We have a lot of respect for their program and their JV team and enjoy playing them each year.” Kennard Dale was the Mule opponent on Thursday, April 27, and on this occasion it took the Mules six innings before the Lady Rams went home with a 14-4 loss. Again, it was Dean picking up the win walking two and recording seven K’s and scattering six hits. “Sierra had a great command of the plate,” said McDowell. “She hit her spots and made pitches that produce the outs we were looking for.” Dean and Townsley set the pace at the plate. Townsley went three for five with a triple and two runs batted in. Dean drove in three runs on the strength of a single and double. Lawson went two for three. DeHaven made the best of her one base hit driving in three runs and Kelsey Sheets drove in one run with a single. Kennard Dale has a quality program and their JV team is very competitive,” added McDowell. “Coming into this game KD only had one loss on the season.” On Friday, April 28, Townsley worked inside the circle striking out five, failing to issue a free pass and limiting the Lady Spartans to one hit in a 12-1 win. “Skyla had a solid performance as she overpowered the GS hitters the entire game.” Gabby Sheets led the team in offense with three singles and four RBI’s in three plate appearances. Dean drove in three runs with a single and a double. Both Townsley and Moeser had two hits; one of Townsley’s a double. Others contributing at least one base hit were Claudia Kennedy, Kelsey Sheets and DeHaven who also stole two bases. Comments are closed.
