Solanco's JV softball team scored 51 runs in 13 innings last week and ran its season-opening win streak to six. The Mules downed host Elizabethtown 15-9 Friday. "Not only is this a big game for the varsity teams, this is a big rivalry game for the JV teams, too," Solanco coach Chad McDowell said. "This is a game that we use as a measuring stick to see growth in our players, our team, and our JV program as a whole. Elizabethtown always puts a quality team on the field and we look forward to playing them each year as we know it's going to be a fun, competitive game."
Lindsey Lane was 3 for 4 with two doubles, a triple, and four RBIs. Alyssa Henretty and Molly Chew each had two hits and two RBIs. Skyla Townsley was 2 for 3 with a single, double, and RBI. Aleksa Burger had a single and a double. Townsley earned the win. She recorded four strikeouts and gave up nine hits. "Skyla threw very well," said McDowell. "She had good control within the strike zone and around the plate, especially on the outside corner." Solanco routed Conestoga Valley 16-1 in three innings last Wednesday. Pitcher Kayla May struck out three while allowing four hits and no walks. "Once again, pitchers had to battle 'The Winds of Solanco'." McDowell said. "Kayla did a good job overcoming some strong, gusty winds during the game. She threw a nice game keeping the CV hitters off-balance." Tori Lawson clubbed a home run and a triple and knocked in five runs. Burger was 3 for 3 including a double and an RBI. Aubrey Sheets had two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run. Sierra Dean delivered a single and a double. Kelsey Sheets had a single, stolen base, and two RBIs. Maddison Pluck collected a single and two RBIs. May and Noelle Schneider each had a single and an RBI. The Mules romped to a 20-0 triumph over Ephrata in three innings Tuesday, April 5. Townsley struck out three and yielded three hits to earn the win. "It was a cool and blustery day where Skyla had to persevere through the conditions," said McDowell. "She pitched a solid game." Lane and Lawson each homered for the Mules. Lane was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Lawson drove in two. Townsley was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Kaitlyn Dobinson was 2 for 2 with a triple and two RBIs. Georgia Ewing added two hits and two RBIs. Dean singled, doubled, and drove in a run. Aubrey Sheets singled twice and knocked in a run.
