by Bud Hart On Monday, April 24, the Lebanon Cedars proved challenging for the boys, but the girls chopped the Lady Cedars down handily winning 17 of the 18 disciplines in a dominating 131.0-17.0 win. Senior Jen Eberly led the way with three wins, 100-meter hurdles (16.5-seconds), 300-meter hurdles (49.7) and the long jump (16-feet, six inches).
Another senior girl picked up a double win. Kelly Cook won the triple jump (29’5”) and the high jump (4’8”), the latter a personal best. Junior Amanda Swenson also won two events, winning the 100-meter dash (13.7) and the 200-meter dash (29.2). Freshman Alana Yoder won the 400-meter dash, established a personal best and qualified for Districts crossing the line at the 59.7 mark. Other track winners included Aubrey Roop (1600-meter run) with a time of 5:57.9, Courtney Johnson (800-meter run) in 2:31.7 and Dana Landis (3200-meter run) in 14:12.3. Field discipline winners were Anna Cooney (Shot put – 37’1.75”), Troyanna Miller (discus – 105’20”) and Lydia Fetterman (javelin- 92’4”). Johnson, Hannah Sweda, Kerith Paine and Yoder combined to win the 3200-meter relay (10:32.8), while Casey Weder, Ryleigh Ferrari, Cook and Swenson combined to win the 400-meter relay (55.6). Eberly, Johnson, Sweda and Yoder won the 1600-meter relay (4:58.9). Earning two points for the Mules by placing second were Sophia Baker (100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles ), Weder (100-meter dash and long jump), Morgan Perry (1600 and 3200-meter runs), Paine (200 and 400-meter runs), Sarah Sweda (800-meter run), Miller (shot put), Nathaly Molinarez (javelin) and Jacqueline Groff (triple jump). Third place Mule track finishers were Ferrari (100-meter dash), Groff (400-meter run), Roop (800-meter run) and Weder (200-meter dash). Earning one point by placing third in the track disciplines were Haley Teaman (shot put), Cooney (discus), Cook (long jump), Georgia Ewing (triple jump), Montana Lockhart (high jump) and Sophia Plechner (pole vault). “Very impressive to see all the seconds that were earned by the girls and earning 11 personal bests,” said head coach, Ivan Haines. “The girl’s team is coming together very nicely.” Coach Haines knew the boys were facing a strong Lebanon boys’ team as they suffered a 95-55 loss to the Cedars. But there were some Solanco highs, particularly in the field where Dylan Sheaffer (shot put-45’4.25”and discus-139’9”) picked up double wins and Alex Hindman earned a first in the javelin (149’4”). Only Rob McHugh garnered the other Mule first place finish clearing the bar at 5’10” to win the high jump. The Solanco 400-meter relay team won the event behind the 46.1 second finish of Eric Hopkins Alex McDonald, Kyle Dombach and Will Paredes-Jimenez. Second place Mule track finishes were earned by Nick Yannutz (110-meter hurdles), Paredes-Jimenez (100-meter dash), Brit Yoder (400-meter run), Alec Munro (800-meter run) and Ben Stickler (3200-meter run.) Track Solanco second place finishes went to McHugh (long jump and triple jump). Hopkins (100 and 200-meter dashes), Christian Stead (1600-meter run), Yannutz (300-meter hurdles) and Ian Brown (3200-meter run) earned one point for Solanco by placing third in the track events. Third place finishers for the Mules in field disciplines went to Jayson Hopkins (shot put), Gabe LaMonica (discus), Harrison Bauer (javelin) and Billy Maeda (pole vault). “Overall the team performed well earning nine personal bests, a sign of continuous improvement,” said Haines. “They were simply outperformed by a few strong individuals from Lebanon.” Haines said the boys’ team has the talent to develop into a successful team, but they need to work and perform to a greater intensity to reach the team’s goal. “The underclassmen on this team are developing into good athletes and are really backing up our seniors,” added Haines. “The coaching staff is very proud of how the teams are performing.” Comments are closed.
