Solanco's girls basketball team lost its lone game of the week. The Mules lost 47-32 to Elizabethtown Tuesday, January 19. E-town led 24-20 at halftime and broke the game open by outscoring Solanco 15-6 in the third quarter. "They took command in the third quarter," coach Chad McDowell said. "We had some untimely turnovers. We played well for three of the four quarters but in the third quarter we had more turnovers than shot attempts…We were expecting a little longer halftime [break] and did not get the proper warm-up. We came out a little slow."
The Bears switched their strategy a bit at halftime. "They changed up their press," said McDowell. "They went to a man-to-man and trapped off of it. We were a little rattled. We called a timeout and made some adjustments, then we were ok. We played very well for most of the game. I saw a lot of good things." Nikki Boultinghouse paced the Mules with 10 points. Jess Cabrera returned from an injury to collect six points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. "Jess had a pretty solid game," said McDowell. Grace Kreider contributed seven points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Gabby Rossi recorded five points and three steals. Jen Eberly added two points, three rebounds, and two steals. Aleksa Burger provided two points, four rebounds, and two steals. "The girls played hard and with a lot of positive energy," said McDowell. "We have to put four quarters together on a consistent basis. Last Friday's scheduled game against Conestoga Valley was postponed because of the snowstorm and was rescheduled for Wednesday night. The Mules are also slated to travel to Garden Spot Thursday and host York Country Day Saturday with the usual 6 p.m. (JV) and 7:30 p.m. (varsity) start times. Saturday is Solanco Girls Youth Basketball Recognition Night. Teams will be introduced at halftime of the varsity game. Rossi, the Mules' only senior, will be honored between the JV and varsity games. Comments are closed.
