by Bud Hart Solanco recorded three falls and a decision, but it wasn’t enough as Penn Manor, now in a three-way first place Section I tie with Cocalico and Conestoga Valley, pasted the Mules. The Comets won 10 bouts and left Solanco with a 49-21 win on Wednesday night, January 18. Mule victories were posted by Grayson Charles, 138, with a fall at 3:43; A.J. Wilson at 152 with a fall at 2:41; Josh Weder at 195 with a fall at 24 seconds; and Kaleb Tucker at 220 with a 6-1 decision. The key match was at 170 where Jonah Barley was bumped up to face Solanco’s Ben Root, who on the weekend prior placed fifth in the prestigious Escape the Rock tournament. This time Barley won the battle with a 9-3 decision. In another key match, Sheldon Peiffer (120) attempted to battle back in the third period, but was down 6-1 going in and couldn’t turn his opponent over for back points after a reversal.
Manor dominated with five falls, one major decision, one forfeit and three decisions. “For some reason we don’t do well after a tournament,” said Coach John Little. “We always seem to be a little flat.” The Mules rebounded nicely on Saturday morning, January 21, handing the visiting Kennard Dale Rams a 48-27 loss in a non-league contest. Kennard Dale took a 3-0 lead when Jade Rose earned an 8-2 decision at 160 where the match began. Ben Root gave the Mules a 6-3 advantage with a third period fall at 170, but the Rams Austin McNamee gave the visitors a 9-6 lead with a fall at 182. Weder was awarded a forfeiture win at 195 and Tucker recorded a fall at 220 to give the Mules a lead they never surrendered. Other winners for the Mules were Peiffer (120), Chase Charles (126), Joey Vandegriff (132), Grayson Charles (138), and Wilson(152). Kennard Dale’s Andrew Barnett earned his 100th high school career win by fall at 145. Comments are closed.
