by Bud Hart Pins by Chase Charles, Joey Vandegriff, Grayson Charles, Ben Root and Josh Weder propelled the Golden Mules to a 45-33 win over the Warwick Warriors at Lititz on Wednesday, January 11. The visitors also benefitted from a forfeit at 106, a Sheldon Pieffer (120) injury default win and an A. J. Wilson (152) decision. Chase Charles (126) started the pinning trend with a clamp of his opponent at the 2:48 mark. Vandegriff (132) followed suit with a fall; and Grayson Charles (138) recorded the fastest pin of the night in 27 seconds. Root (170) ended his bout at the 57-second mark and Weder needed 44-seconds to record his fall. Solanco won seven of the contested bouts. “I thought the youngsters wrestled well,” said head coach John Little. The coach thought the key matches were at 120 through 132.
“Picking up bonus points at those three weights and having Grayson Charles and A. J. Wilson back in the lineup made it a much better lineup for us,” Little said. The win improved the Mules record to 3-2 and sets up a home match with Penn Manor on Wednesday, January 18. Manor lost to Cocalico 52-18 on Wednesday, January 11 in Denver. The Mules were one of 48 schools from NJ, VA, MD, MA, TN, OH and PA competing in the highly competitive Escape the Rock Tournament held Saturday, January 14 and Sunday, January 15. The tournament expected 12 National Champions to be on hand. Three wrestlers from Solanco were featured on the website, Ben Root, Grayson Charles and A. J. Wilson. A check Saturday night indicated that only Ben Root (170) made it to the quarterfinals where he lost to Cade Moisey (Northampton) by a 7-2 decision. More to report in next week’s edition.
