by Bud Hart It was a great week for the Solanco junior varsity softball team as two pitchers each threw a one-hitter. Sierra Dean limited Warwick to a single base hit in an 18-2 victory at Warwick on Monday, April 17, and Skyla Townsley followed later in the week, limiting McCaskey to one-hit in a 21-0, three inning stomping on Wednesday, April 19. On her way to the win over the Warriors, Dean struck out 10 and walked three. “Sierra had good control and located her pitches well,” wrote head coach Chad McDowell. “She pitched outs. I am proud of the way Sierra threw the ball.” Leading the offense was sophomore Gabrielle “Gabby" Sheets. Sheets went four-for four, including a double, knocking in three runs. Dean missed the cycle by one, going three-for-four with a single, double and triple. Kelsey Sheets and Tori Lawson each had two hits with Lawson leading the team in steals with four. The team recorded a season game high 12. Other players recording at least one base hit were Noelle Schneider, freshman Mackenzie Britigan and Desiree Dehaven. Schneider’s single drove in two Mules.
“As a team we were 17 of 32 from the plate, which included five extra base hits,” said McDowell. Townsley had an easy time of it against the Red Tornado. In three innings, she limited the opposing team to the one hit, walked no one and struck out seven. “She had great command of the strike zone and she was overpowering,” said McDowell. One of the offensive stars for the Golden Mules were junior Avrie Moeser who was perfect at the plate going two for two with three RBIs. But it was Dean who took Mule team honors in runs driven in with four, including a three run round tripper. Other Mules getting in on the offensive act with key hits were, Schneider, Lawson, Sheets and Claudia Kennedy. Comments are closed.
