Solanco's JV baseball team won two of its final three games. Last Wednesday, the Mules lost 4-1 to Lampeter-Strasburg. Coleman Dow started for Solanco. Despite giving up two hits and a walk in the first, Dow got out of the inning with only one run scoring as first baseman, Henry Woy, made a heads-up play to get the final out. L-S scored another run in the second on one hit two walks and a hit by pitch to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, the Pioneers added two runs. In the fifth, the Mules loaded the bases with one out as Nate Shambaugh singled, and Jack Boomsma and Corey Stively walked, but the top of the lineup could not come up with a hit.
In the sixth, Dawson Kreider singled, and with one out, Joey Gote walked and Alex McDonald got an infield single to load the bases. Shambaugh grounded out to score a run and that is how the game ended. On Tuesday, May 10, Solanco upended Elizabethtown 8-4. The JV Mules have lost four straight to the Bears over the last three seasons. Kreider got the start. The Bears came out swinging and plated three runs in the first on a walk and three hits. Solanco fought back with two runs in the first as Sam Buckwalter walked, Tim Fetterman singled, and Kreider was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hunter Shaw was then hit by a pitch to score Buckwalter. John Murray singled home Fetterman. Elizabethtown added a run in the second on three singles to take a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the second, the Mules erupted for four runs. With one out, Zack Fritz and Buckwalter walked. Fetterman then singled in Fritz and Kreider walked to reload the bases. Shaw was hit by a pitch again scoring Buckwalter and Murray grounded out to drive in the fourth run of the inning to give the Mules an 6-4 lead. Gabe Horn came in to relieve Kreider in the third and finished the game with three strikeouts, no runs allowed, and one hit yielded to collect the victory. Shambaugh closed out the scoring for the Mules with a two-run triple in the fourth. On Monday, May 9, Horn and Stively combined for a one-hitter to help the Mules top Garden Spot 3-1. The Spartans scored a first inning run on a walk and an error to take a 1-0 lead. That would be the only run that Garden Spot would score as Horn pitched two more innings, only giving up one hit. Stively pitched three innings in relief striking out five and yielding no hits. Solanco took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second as Shambaugh singled, stole second, and scored on a single from catcher Zack Fritz. Buckwalter then tripled to drive in Fritz. In the third, Alex McDonald, grounded into a fielder’s choice to drive in Shaw to lengthen the lead to 3-1. Comments are closed.
