You could call it "Wrestling 101".
The Rubicon Introduction to Wrestling Camp, held in the Solanco wrestling room July 23-25, is designed to teach the basics to kids entering kindergarten through sixth grade. Solanco Elementary Wrestling program coaches served as the lead clinicians for the camp, which is free for Solanco students. Mike May tossed five shutout innings to earn the win and knocked in five runs to spark the Solanco Midget baseball team to a 9-1 triumph over visiting Strasburg Willow Street Monday, July 1, at Solanco High School.
Approximately 60 aspiring soccer players spent four nights "Kickin' It with the Mules" at the Solanco Soccer Camp.
Boys and girls entering kindergarten through sixth grade honed their skills June 24-27 under the direction of Solanco High coaches and players. "It's just a really great week for building relationships and rapport between the younger kids and the older kids," Solanco girls soccer coach Ken Yoder said. Chad McDowell views the Solanco Girls Basketball Camp as an opportunity for his high school players to accomplish two objectives while serving as instructors.

Those were the two hallmarks of Solanco High School's field hockey camp. Solanco High coaches and players provided instruction and worked to build relationships during the 17th annual "Big Sister, Little Sister" camp, which was held last week at the school. Solanco's Tim Fetterman blamed himself when Mechanicsburg rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to tie Solanco in a 5A District III baseball tournament first round game Monday, May 20.
It didn't take long for the Mules' right fielder to make amends. Fetterman atoned for a throwing error with the game-winning RBI single in the home half of the inning to give seventh-seeded Solanco a 4-3 victory. "I was the one who pretty much caused that three-run inning for them so I thought, go up there and make it right," said Fetterman. "I made it right." Manheim Central got a big hit and prevented Solanco from doing the same.
That spelled the difference in a Lancaster-Lebanon League baseball tournament first round game Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Field in Ephrata. The Section Three champion Barons tallied twice in the bottom of the fifth to snap a 1-1 tie and downed the Mules 3-1. Twelfth graders Corey Stively and Hayden Fox combined for a no-hitter on Senior Day as the Solanco baseball team topped visiting York Suburban 3-0 Tuesday, May 7.
Undefeated Lampeter-Strasburg dashed the Solanco softball team's league playoff hopes with a 12-2 win in five innings Friday afternoon.
The Mules needed a victory over the visiting Pioneers to leapfrog Elizabethtown for second place in Section Two. |
