The Solanco boys track and field team improved to 5-0 with a win over Ephrata while the girls turned in a solid performance in a loss. The boys prevailed 94-56. "The boys’ team really came through with their fifth win of the season," coach Ivan Haines said. "Of all the teams in the section we matched up well against Ephrata and the meet could have gone either way. The boys worked hard to prepare for this meet. The hard work paid off with us earning more points or points where we were not planning. We were able to outperform them on the track 2 to 1." Troy Miller won three individual events and helped the 4 x 100 relay team to a victory. He prevailed in the 200, high jump (6-7) and long jump (district qualifying mark of 22-7.
Billy Cooney won both hurdles events and Prosper Eguzouwa took the 100. Noah Brady prevailed in the 800 and Liam Hodgson took the 3200. "The throwing team had a great night also," said Haines. "We were relying on them to earn as many points as possible." Noah McCardell and Gary Doubts earned firsts in the javelin and shot put, respectively. Both of them are juniors and we are expecting great performances, not only for the rest of this year, but next year also," said Haines. Haines said the big surprise tonight was Reese Motter earning a first in the pole vault (10-0). "It was really nice to see all event areas outscoring their opponents, a tribute to their hard work," said Haines. "For being a young team these guys continue to improve and taking one step forward to our team goal. I am really impressed with their improvement. This team has the drive to go far in the section." The Solanco girls (3-2) lost 96-54. "Ephrata has a good deep team," said Haines. "We could not overcome their strength and depth. We sacrificed the three relays to place girls in their individual events so that they could improve their times and distances competing against a good opponent. The girls were able to pick up seven firsts." Jenevieve Eberly earned two of these firsts by sweeping the hurdles. Cameron Trimble notched a pair of wins by taking the discus and shot put. Brooke McCardell (pole vault), Natalie Crum (1600), and Cayla Robinson (javelin) each recorded a win. The girls’ throwers did well as a group and were able to outscore their opponents," said Haines. "I am very pleased with the girls’ team performance. Many of the girls were able to use the strength of Ephrata to be pushed to earn better performances." Comments are closed.
