By Bud Hart It was not a good week weather wise, and the Solanco Mules had little sunshine on the field of play losing to both Warwick and McCaskey, both Section I/II crossover games. On Tuesday, April 18, Warwick scored plated seven runs in the second inning on one hit to set the stage for a dismal Mule afternoon. “The Warwick game got away from us early,” said Solanco head coach Tom Fish. “We used three pitchers in the inning and had a little trouble finding the strike zone.”
The Mules did manage to get within four in the fourth inning when Dawson Kreider blasted one deep for a two-run double. Coach Fish said that Kreider was probably the only Mule who shined as he came in to pitch and gave the Mules their three best innings on the field. “We held Warwick scoreless, which gave us a chance to get back in the game, but while we threatened with baserunners throughout the game, we could only push across those three runs.” On Wednesday, April 19, the Red Tornado led 6-0 and the Mules got close, but a bases loaded double play ended the game with the go ahead run stranded. Haydn Fox got the starting nod on the mound for Solanco, and although it wasn’t his best effort he kept the Mules in the game. “While not his best performance on the mound,” said Coach Fish. “He did give us a chance to win.” Fox went five innings giving up five runs. The Mules made it interesting in the top of the seventh when they had six consecutive batters reach base on five hits and one walk. Sam Buckwalter, Hunter Shaw, Mike Worthington, Tim Fetterman and Colin Ewaka singled and Trent Myers drew a free pass, but the twin killing ended the Mules chance for victory. spite managing to plate three Mules. “We have eight games in 10 days,” said Fish. “We hope to ride the momentum of the seventh inning next week.” Comments are closed.
