Tri-State Christian Academy boys basketball triumphed over visiting Perryville 72-49 on Monday, February 13. The Panthers and the Crusaders tied at nine points each halfway through the first period after Perryville's Dom Gugliotta scored two three pointers, and Willie Hughes added a free throw. Crusader Ethan Wolfe scored three consecutive treys in the final minutes giving them a five point lead over the Panthers. "It was huge, because he is a great shooter. People key on Jacob Falko and that leaves Wolfe open," said Tri-State head coach Bill Smith. "Their whole zone had to shift over for him and that just opened up the lane for us to drive," said Smith.
"I think we moved the ball really well on offense and we got our shooters open," said Tri-State’s Jacob Falko. Perryville tried to make a comeback in the second, adding 11 points, Falko racked up 17 bringing the score to 41-27 at the half. "Once our defense started to showed up our offense gets better and we pass the ball well. Once we pin the outside with our shooters we were able to drive to the basket," said Smith. Tri-State's defense slowed the Panthers pace and stopped many of the needed baskets in the second to down their deficit. "We did a good job with our press. I think we limited them a lot with our dribbling and forcing them to throw away some passes," said Falko. "Nobody can stop us once we go up like 20 or so (points). We just keep our foot on the gas and just play till the end and never stop." The Crusaders top scorer was Falko with 30 points, followed by Wolfe with 12. Falko also nabbed five steals and Paul Giesing made eight assists and grabbed three steals. For the Panthers, Gugliotta racked up 17 points, Dennis Johnson scored 10, and Hughes added eight. Coach Smith said that his two leaders on the floor were Falko with his scoring and Giesing with his defense skills. "He (Giesling) is like a water bug. He is everywhere and he jumps through offense and he just doesn't run out of energy," he added. Comments are closed.
