After having a 8-6 season last year, Rising Sun wrestling team is hoping to be a regional qualifier this year. "We have high expectations, I think we are looking to win out our conference and pick up some tough duals with John Carroll, Bel Air and Dunbar," said Rising Sun head coach Cory Hall. The team lost two wrestlers to graduation, Max Foppiano and Tyler Jones. "Tyler was a big contributor last year and a state qualifier, regional champ and a Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference runner up," Hall said. "Max was a three year varsity wrestler, who placed at Battle at the Bridge (last year). He always kept a smile on his face and was a joy to coach. He was a hard worker and never gave up," said Hall. There are four state qualifiers returning to the team this year.
"Matt Childs was a round away from placing last year. Noah Ulrich, qualified and won a match down at states. John Price went to states and won a match, and Silas Filliaux, who was a UCBAC regional champ," said Hall. Coach has high hopes for a few of his freshman who will be on varsity. "Logan Garvin and Caleb Kirk will be making the varsity line up this year," said Hall. The team will have some hurdles to overcome. "North East and Perryville will be some tough matches. We have expectations to be a regional duel qualifiers." he said. s Hall is also appreciative of the support the community has provided to the program. "This year we have had a lot of community support, I would like to say thank you to all the donors, that have contributed to the team," he said. Comments are closed.
