The Rising Sun volleyball team got a bit of a scare on Senior Night. Visiting Bel Air pushed the Tigers in the second game but Rising Sun recorded its 11th straight sweep, 25-15, 25-21, 25-14. The Bobcats took a 21-19 lead in the second game before Rising Sun reeled off six straight points to close it out.
"I think we learned that we become a little overconfident in ourselves and we think, 'Oh, we got this'," said outside hitter Lacey Swartout. "But we have to keep in mind the other team we're playing is also really good so we have to keep up our momentum." Swartout says the Tigers try to remain positive. "We take deep breaths and we try to talk to everybody being really positive," she said. "Saying nothing negative and being motivating toward all the players." Rising Sun coach Rich Wilson says his team started strong but the Tigers' play slowly began to dissolve. "They went flat," said Wilson. "The first part of the first game, probably the first 15 points, was probably the best stretch we've played in weeks. And then they relaxed a little bit and the second game we relaxed a little more and the passing started getting off…It kind of snowballed. I was afraid there at the end it got away from me. Fortunately, we pulled it out." The coach says his players become specatators. "They stop moving," Wilson said. "The issue is really they stop moving. Rather than getting into their positions they'll stop and they'll watch the game and get slightly out of position. It affects everybody. They start watching the game instead of playing it and that's dangerous. It's tough to pull it back." Rising Sun was able to recover and completed the sweep. Breanne Haley led the Tigers with 12 kills and eight aces. Mackenzie Blevins added seven spikes, Lacey Swarout contributed five, and Maddy Eckerd chipped in four. Sarah Williams handed out 20 assists. Prior to the match, the Tigers paid tribute to their three seniors – Clarissa Pino and twin sisters Laura Ritchie and Emily Ritchie. Comments are closed.
