The Rising Sun volleyball team secured its sixth straight region title with a 25-12, 25-16, 25-12 triumph over Easton Saturday afternoon at Chesapeake College. "What I had heard is Easton was like Elkton except maybe a little more skilled and athletic," Wilson said. "That was basically what we saw. I don't think they played as good a serving team as us before or a team that can hit like we can, either."
Rising Sun served 16 aces led by five from Lauren Hudson and Lexi Gordon, Emily Jackson, and Breelyn Young each added three. "We were able to keep pressure on them throughout the service rotation," said Wilson. Rising Sun had 32 kills and just four errors for a robust .426 hitting percentage. "The girls played at a high level for all three games," said Wilson. "All phases of the game were working." It is the Tigers' 16th region crown. Rising Sun is seeking a fourth state title. The journey continues Tuesday night (November 13) at 6 when the Tigers take on west champion Williamsport in Ritchie Coliseum on the campus of the University of Maryland. The last time the two schools met, Williamsport defeated Rising Sun in the 2016 state title match. "They are a very strong attacking team, much stronger than we are in that respect," said Wilson, who watched some of Williamsport's region championship match. "They have three outside hitters who are very good. It's going to be up to us to serve well and keep them out of system, force them to make a bad pass. It's going to be an interesting game. I think we will have to be on top of our game." Rising Sun 3, Elkton 0 Rising Sun volleyball team swept visiting Elkton in a region semifinal match Wednesday night, November 7. The Tigers triumphed 25-7, 25-14, 25-15. Sophia Eckerd paced the Tigers with 13 kills and also had five aces. Emily Jackson posted six kills, six aces, and nine assists. Lauren Hudson had seven aces and Breelyn Young notched five. "The story of regionals is, come in, play at a consistent level," Rising Sun coach Rich Wilson said. "We know the teams that we're playing so it's not like there's any surprise. We didn't play at a consistent level. I tried to sub everybody in tonight, which I didn't do the other night. So the play kind of suffered there in the second and third game. But I still keep the core in there and I expect them to still perform. So, yeah, it's like get in, get it over with, stay healthy. Let's not break or hurt anybody. That kind of deal." Rising Sun 3, North Harford 0 The Tigers triumphed 25-11, 25-9, 25-9 in the playoffs opener Monday night, November 5. Sophia Eckerd had a team-high 12 kills and nine aces. Lauren Hudson supplied seven kills and eight aces. Emily Jackson posted 14 assists and Megan Hoyle added 10. Breelyn Young provided seven digs and three aces. Comments are closed.
