Reagan Connell tossed a shutout and Kelly Porte collected four hits and four RBIs as the Rising Sun softball team opened with season with a 13-0 triumph over host Havre de Grace Monday, March 21. Connell, a sophomore, struck out nine while allowing four hits and three walks. The Tigers' first three batters of the game scored. Freshman Ally Bradford drew a leadoff walk and Porte wound up walking after fouling off several two-strike pitches. Paige Bradford reached on an infield single to the second baseman to load the bases. Lexie Barclay smashed an RBI single to right and two more runs scored when the right fielder bobbled the ball and then threw wildly to the plate. Rising Sun added three in the third. Porte grounded a single to right to get things started and later scored when Barclay was safe on an error. Mia Sexton delivered an RBI single to right. Alexa Hull lashed a double to right-center and Lexi Osborne was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sexton scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-0. The Tigers tacked on two runs in the fifth. Connell and Ally Bradford each singled and Porte and Barclay both knocked in a run with a single. Rising Sun recorded five runs in the top of the seventh. Hull led off with a walk and Osborne bunted for a hit. Connell was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After an out, Ally Bradford walked to force home a run. Porte then doubled in the left-center gap to plate three runs. Paige Bradford singled to score Porte. Comments are closed.
