Rising Sun wrestling team downed Elkton at home 67-6 on Wednesday, January 18. "I think we were a little better off than we expected. Last week we had a real tough week coming out of Battle at the Bridge, going into John Carroll and Dunbar, then going into Bel Air. Coming out of the tri-meet with John Carroll and Dunbar with a win was a huge mark. So that kind of put us in a little better spot," said Rising Sun head coach Cory Hall. The Tigers took the lead after Silas Filliaux defeated Garret Deleon by major decision 13-4 at 132. They held their lead after Noah Ulrich (138) and Caleb Kirk (145) both added pins. Rising Sun's Richie Moore (170) defeated Dalton Shanahan by fall, and Taylor Cimorosi (195) defeated Cross Rooney by fall. Riley Johnston (152) and Steve McKinney (160) both received forfeits. Matt Childs (106) defeated Pierre Lotts by a 8-4 decision. "We definitely look good out their. We were working a lot of technique, just working on those and learning wrestling and overall just improving for our tougher matches coming up against Perryville and North East," said Ulrich. The Elks were unable to score until Tyrone Daniels received a forfeit at 220 only adding six points. After Rising Sun's win, Coach Hall believes if his team buckles down and practices hard his team is ready and will be ready to take on regional duals. "We have got some tough matches coming up with Perryville and North East. I think if we push through and set some goals in regional duals, we are in the drivers seat to get there," said Hall. Even though Elkton lost, head coach Michael Wright is proud to see the individual improvements his wrestlers have made since the start of the season. "A lot of our new guys are definitely doing better. This time at the beginning of the season we were all getting pinned in the first period, so a lot of our guys are getting passed that," he said.
