Abigail Vogelsong tallied twice including the eventual game-winner with 11:53 remaining as the Tome field hockey team nipped host Perryville 2-1 Friday afternoon. "I got a nice assist again from Laidan Ryan and I just tapped it in," Vogelsong said of her second score. "It's all a team effort." Emily Sponaugle had put Perryville ahead with a goal off a corner with 17:45 left in the first half.
Vogelsong answered 4 minutes, 33 seconds later. "It was a nice center pass from Taylor DeMasi and I just swept it in," Vogelsong said. Charlotte Harris spearheaded the Titans' defense in front of goalie Anna Bilsky. "We just had to make sure to back each other up," Harris said. "And if one person goes up, you have to cover that person's spot. You have to keep following them with your stick and never give up because the second you give up, the second it goes through." Tome improved to 2-1 on the season after starting with a 2-1 loss to Gunston and 4-0 victory over Havre de Grace. "We treat every team the same," Vogelsong said. "We don't know what to expect so we give it our all. No matter if it's a public school or a private school we try to treat them the same because you never know what they could pull off that year." Tome's nucleus has been playing together since fifth grade under coach Jackie Williams. "We always come in confident," Vogelsong said. "We're always ready to win. We never look down. We just come in ready to play every game." Comments are closed.
