Rising Sun remained alive in the District 5 Major baseball tournament with a 14-3 victory over Elkton in four innings Tuesday night, July 10. Rising Sun scored three runs in the top of the first and never looked back. Luke Trout got things going with an infield single in the hole. Ben Adams singled sharply to center to put runners on the corners and Layne Hull drilled an RBI single to left. After Dillon Goodwin walked to load the bases, Adams scored when John Mettee grounded into a fielder's choice. Hull scored on a passed ball.
Elkton answered with a run in the home half. Jamie LaManna walked, moved up to third on a pair of wild pitches, and scored on Jackson Lewis' two-out single up the middle. Rising Sun added a run in the second. Gavin Patterson drew a one-out walk and eventually scored on an error. Rising Sun busted the game open with 10 runs in the third. Goodwin doubled to left and scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-1. Trout and Adams each walked with the bases loaded to force in a run before Hull delivered a two-run single through the hole. Goodwin's second hit of the inning re-loaded the bases and Bradley Dietz produced a two-run single past the second baseman. J.T. Lepore singled to left to drive in a run and Dawson Douglas capped the inning with a two-run double over the left fielder's head. Hull started for Rising Sun and gave up one run over 2 2/3 innings before being replaced by Dietz who finished the game. Rising Sun plays North East Wednesday night at 7.
