The Rising Sun girls basketball team used a fullcourt pressure defense to post a 40-26 triumph over visiting Octorara Monday, December 18. The Tigers tallied the first 13 points of the second quarter to take a 19-6 lead and breezed from there.
"I feel like this year we have the athletes to be effective with our press," Rising Sun coach Kathy Stoudt said. "Actually, the second quarter we went to a man-to-man press fullcourt and that was the game-changer right there." Kendra Stamper collected a team-high 10 points to go along with four steals. Ally Bradford provided nine points. Kira Watson supplied six points, five steals, and four blocks. Gabrielle Vaughan added two points and seven rebounds. "As we continue to grow, I think there are a lot of things we still need to work on, but I think, with the athletes we have and with the speed we have, and we even have some quick players coming off the bench,I think [pressure defense] will be one of our strong points this year," said Stoudt. The Tigers also had difficulty scoring in the first quarter before breaking loose. "I think our defense created offense for us which is typically what I I like to do as a coach so I was happy with that," Stoudt said. "We do need to work on our halfcourt offense, things like that, but the problem is sometimes our girls get too sped up. We just need to continue to grow and work on our pressure defense and create offense off of that." Comments are closed.
