The Rising Sun girls basketball team faced too tough of a task on Senior Night. Newark Charter, with no seniors on its roster and a star freshman point guard and eighth grader in the starting lineup, topped the Tigers 37-20 Friday night. "They are very impressive," Rising Sun coach Kathy Stoudt said. "They're athletic and we struggle with a quick, athletic team like that. You can tell they play a lot of basketball, year round I'm sure, with a lot of good players. They're a great team." The Tigers trailed 9-8 with 6:38 left in the second quarter before the Patriots embarked on a 12-0 run to end the half. Kaytlen Nugent paced the Tigers with five points and six rebounds and junior Abby mack recorded five points and five boards. Rising Sun seniors Lexi Osborne, Paige Bradford, Nugent, and Jess Borchardt and their families were honored prior to the game. "It's disappointing for us to lose on Senior Night but we're proud of the accomplishments our seniors have had over the four years," said Stoudt. "It was my first freshman class so it's sentimental for me. They'll always hold a special place in this program." Bradford said the loss did not put a damper on a memorable night. "It's been a really good four years," she said. "It's a good group of girls. With us being coach's first [four-year class], it's really special. It doesn't really matter that we lost…It was nice. Our families are here. We had the student section here. It was just really nice. It was rally exciting and special."
