Round 1 to Rising Sun. There will be much more at stake in Round 2. The Tigers' boys soccer team topped visiting Harford Tech 1-0 Tuesday afternoon, October 27 in a playoff preview. The two teams meet in the second round of the playoffs Tuesday night, November 3 on Tech's turf. Rising Sun coach Ken Ulrich said his team played to win but did not tip its hand. "We were trying some different things out with some positions and stuff," he said. "We wanted to beat them. We knew they were going to be tough because obviously they're going to see us in a week and they wanted to show us what they had. It wasn't the pretty win that I wanted. We did win the game. I think we controlled the ball most of the time. So I was pleased with the performance."
Brad Alexander scored the game's lone goal 12 minutes into the second half. Logan Holtman took a hard shot from the top of the box. The Tech goalie made the saver but the ball bounced to Alexander who headed it home from the left of the net. "I knew I had a couple opportunities earlier on in the game that were given to me by Logan and Kane," said Alexander. "And I couldn't seem to put them away. So when I saw Logan winding up to take a shot, I knew I was going to follow up hard if it was going to take a deflection off the goalie or if it was going to go in, it's a goal. But I knew I wanted it to be in the back of the net and that's what I did there." He didn't have a ton of time to think as the ball floated toward him. "I knew I couldn't let it come down to my foot to get a hit on it," Alexander said. "I'm pretty sure the goalie would've been all over it by then so I just flung in the air and got a head on it. Before I knew it, I was celebrating." Harford Tech plays its home games on artificial turf, but the Tigers have plenty of experience on the surface this season. Alexander said playing a team two games in a row made the first matchup compelling, "It's definitely an interesting feeling because we know we have to prepare for them but we don't want to show them too much at the same time," he said. "Because if we played our best game today who knows what will happen next week. I'm pretty content with how we played today. I'm pretty sure we can play better, which I'm very happy about. I'm pretty sure it will be a good game next week, as well." Comments are closed.
