Perryville girls basketball were in it to win it. The Panthers defeated Rising Sun at home 49-26 last Thursday. Perryville took control of the game leading by 13 at the end of the half. "They were kind of lingering around at 13 points and they (Rising Sun) had just hit a three and we try to remind them that a couple of threes and we're right back in this," said Perryville head coach Mike Blizzard. "They controlled the board in the first half. They are definitely a very talented team. We did not match up well with them," said Rising Sun head coach Kathy Stoudt. The Panthers man to man defense and working together as a team throughout the night gave them a 23 point lead at the end of the third.
"I think our biggest accomplishment is working as a team together. We play really well together on defense and I think that helps us win the games," said forward Teri Wennersten. Rising Sun made a final effort to down the deficit in the fourth with baskets from Jenna Bower bringing the score to 49-26. "We always talk about taking the heart away of a team, feeling like they can't come back and we executed that well. I told the team it is workman like, we went out, nothing flashy, you just went out and took your lunch bill to work and you did your job and we came out with a real nice win and everybody got to contribute. " said Blizzard. For the Panthers, Bea Muscella racked up 13 points, Kayla Losoya and Wennersten each scored eight. The team's top rebounder was Emily Phillips with 13. The Tigers top scorers were Megan Brown and Bower. Brown scored 11 points and made eight rebounds. Bower scored five points and had four rebounds. Even with her team's loss, Coach Stoudt is glad to see the improvements her team has made this far in the season. "If you think about the first half of the season, we had running clocks on us every game so I feel like we came out strong. We just didn't capitalize on opportunities," said Stoudt.
