The Perryville boys basketball team defeated Rising Sun 53-39 Tuesday afternoon in the Green Bracket consolation game of the Green - N - Gold holiday tournament at Cecil College. The Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead but it was mostly all Perryville after that. The Panthers clawed back to tie the game at 13 at halftime. Perryville then scored the first seven points of the third quarter and never trailed again. Instead of sitting back in their trademark 1-3-1 zone, the Panthers switched to a man-to-man and pressured the ball. "We should be better and it didn't happen," Rising Sun coach Don Passenant said. "They put good pressure on us and we didn't react well to the pressure. A lot of times we just needed to pull the ball out and run the offense. And when they got behind they kind of panicked." Tréshawn Warren paced Perryville with 14 points and 11 rebounds and was named to the all-tournament team. Nick Roberts recorded 11 points and five boards. Dom Gugliotta supplied 10 points. Tyleke Johnson had seven points and 10 rebounds. Things started promisingly for Rising Sun. With a different look to the starting lineup, the Tigers dominated the first five minutes. "Some players showed up late so they sat [for the first quarter]," Passenant said. "The other guys played really well." All-tournament team selection Noah Juergens led Rising Sun with 13 points. David Moore added five points. Curtis Cox collected four points and 12 rebounds and Austin Newby notched four points and nine boards. Comments are closed.
