Perryville boys basketball fell to visiting Fallston in a nip and tuck game of 47-40 on Wednesday, February 8. The Panthers led the first period racking up 10 points, with three pointers from Nick Roberts and Dennis "DJ" Johnson bringing them ahead by two. In the second, the Cougars regained control of the floor after a three point shot from Hoerr. Johnson added five points holding the Panthers within two points of Fallston at the half. "We played defense, but I still say the difference in the game is that they have outside shooters, we don't. It doesn't matter how well you play defense. If a guy can strike you from the outside, thats it," said Perryville head coach Charles Givens.
Perryville made a comeback in the third with three baskets from Johnson and two charity shots from Roberts, giving the Panthers a two point lead. The Cougars pulled ahead in the fourth after two outside threes from Wolf. Perryville attempted to break down the deficit with two baskets from Anderson but the Cougars outscored the Panthers 20-11. The Panthers top scorer was Johnson with 16 points. Roberts scored 10 points and Duane Anderson added seven. For Fallston, Wolf racked up 13 points. "Anderson and Billy Boyer, they hustled to the very end. They just gave a good account of themselves and not that others didn't but theirs stood out. When you got to play defense, you need to hustle up and down the floor, you got to dribble the basketball and you got to pass it and you got in their and rebound. Caleb Robinson didn't do bad either, he is not a scorer but he's a hustler and he got some rebounds and he did some key things," said Givens. Comments are closed.
