Perryville boys lacrosse are off to good start with a 13-7 triumph over visting Harford Tech in play off action last Wednesday, May 10. After losing to Rising Sun last week, the Panthers were ready to capture a win. "Harford Tech has ended our season the last two years and it (was) really important for us to get a win. When the draw came out on Monday, when the coin flip was done and we found out that our kids had them(Harford Tech), our kids were really excited to play," said Perryville head coach Chris Soper. "(This) was a great opportunity to get the taste out of our mouths from last weeks loss to Rising Sun, against a good opponent. We were excited to get them and try to sharpen our skills against them." Perryville's Nick Roberts scored the first goal for the Panthers. The Cobra's answered with a goal to tie things up. The Panthers were able to pull ahead of Harford Tech with two goals from Dalton Dunman and another from Ray Woods to round out the first period. "When we first came out and when they (Harford Tech) scored the one (goal), it kind of put us down a little bit and then we started coming back and we just kept our foot on the peddle and (we) just didn't give up," said Dunman. The Cobras added two goals in the second to tie things up. Perryville was able to pull ahead by one with a goal from Roberts to finish out the period. "We got prepared, we watched a lot of film on them and we knew who their shooters were and we just wanted block them off and have more possessions than they did," said Ray Woods. Harford Tech tried to pull ahead in the third adding a goal but the Panthers answered with three goals, one from Kyle Burns, and another from Jarrett Bowman to end the third period. "My defense is solid, probably two of the best seniors that I have seen, Dom Muscella is a beast, he is the best close defense I've had in a while. Ben Savick between the pipes he holds it down. Those guys make it a lot easier for us to win games," said Woods. Trailing 8-5 Harford Tech tried to make a comeback in the fourth adding two goals but Perryville's Woods and Dunman each added two additional goals and Matt Mannone slipped in the final goal to end the game. "If we can play for four quarters and I felt like we almost did that tonight. We feel like if we do (play four quarters) then we will be in good shape. We like our chances if we can play a complete game," said Soper. "Some other guys stepped up tonight and got some confidence. We saw it in Dunman, Kyle Burns and some other guys. I told the guys, its play off time, some guys are going to have to do some things they haven't done in order for us to move on and we got that tonight and it was great." Perryville's defense is what held the team together and ultimately gave them the win. Goalie Ben Savick nabbed thirteen saves between the poles for the Panthers. "Our defense was doing great. Our goalie, Savick, he just dominated the goal and our middies started working the ball forward and we just started getting opportunities and we put them away," said Dunman. Comments are closed.
