Big plays made a huge difference. Jalen Giles scored four touchdowns, three coming on plays of more than 50 yards, to propel the North East football team to a 48-28 triumph over visiting Perryville Friday night. The Indians (5-4) can clinch their first winning season since 2002 with a win at Rising Sun November 3.
Giles returned a punt 52 yards for a score and had TD runs of 70, 21, and 68. North East tallied the last 27 points of the game after Perryville had grabbed a 28-21 lead by taking advantage of an Indians special teams miscue. The Panthers' Kenyetta Bailey recovered a loose ball on the North East two-yard line after an Indians player tried to pick up the ball after a Perryville punt. Bailey Armour bulled his way into the end zone on the next play to put Perryville ahead 28-21 with 3:39 left in the third quarter. The Panthers (6-3) did not score again. Taylor Danglade scored on a 35-yard run in the final minute of the third quarter but the PAT clanged off the upright to leave Perryville clinging to a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter. After the Panthers went three-and-out, North East took the lead for good when Danglade got a little push pass from Chase Hollister and galloped 16 yards to paydirt. Danglade added a two-point conversion to give the hosts a 35-28 edge with 8:47 left. Facing a 4th and 16 from its own 31, Perryville failed on a fake punt and Giles tacked on a touchdown with 6:21 to go. Giles scampered 68 yards for a TD with 3:23 remaining. The teams combined to score three touchdowns in 44 seconds early in the second quarter. The Panthers' Billy Boyer picked off a pass and returned it 39 yards to the one to eventually set up a six-yard TD by Caleb Robinson to give Perryville a 17-4 advantage. After the kickoff, Giles sped 70 yards for a score to tie the game. On the next play from scrimmage, Robinson responded with a 69-yard jaunt to restore the Panthers' seven-point edge. North East tied it with 5:19 left before halftime. On 4th and 7 from the 20, Hollister hit Henry Owens in the left back corner of the end zone. Comments are closed.
