The North East baseball team advanced to the region title game with another come-from-behind victory over a county rival. The Indians regained the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth and added three insurance runs in the seventh on the way to a 10-7 triumph over Elkton Tuesday, May 15. Trailing 6-5 with two outs and nobody on base, North East took advantage of a big break. Marcus Ross struck out on a ball in the dirt, but reached base when the catcher's throw pulled the first baseman off the bag. Payton Hoskins had an infield single off the pitcher's glove to put runners on first and second. Cameron Blankenship delivered a clutch RBI single to right and the go-ahead run scored on an errant throw back into the infield.
After reliever Colt Price shutdown the Elks in the home half of the sixth, North East went back to work and scored three runs. Once again, it all started with two outs. An Andy Jones RBI single made it 8-6. Marcus Ross recorded an RBI infield hit and the on-base machine Hoskins supplied an RBI single to pad the margin to 10-6. Elkton did not go quietly. After cutting the deficit down to 10-7, the Elks brought the potential tying run to the plate but Colt Price ended the game with a strikeout. Elkton battled back from a 4-1 hole earlier. The Indians jumped on top with two runs in the first. Colt Price belted an double over the center fielder's head to put runners on second and third and Chase Hollister provided a two-run single to right-center. After Elkton pushed across an unearned run in the second, Price belted a towering homer to right in the top of the third. Hoskins had an RBI double in the fourth to make it 4-1. The Elks tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Gavin Tereszcuk singled in a run and Luke Anderson plated a pair with a base-knock. North East recaptured the lead on a Kyle Miller solo homer before Elkton took its first edge on Angel Magana's two-run single.
