The Elks didn't take a break over the Christmas holiday, capturing a win over Bo Manor in girls basketball. Elkton defeated the Eagles 55-35 on December 27 during the Green-N-Gold tournament at Cecil College. "We laid an egg with C.M. Wright last week and the girls learned from that. I was really happy with how they prepared for this game. They were fully prepared," said Elkton head coach Chris Dunn. The Elks practiced hard for the tournament and used some new strategies. "Our offense against their zone that was something different that we put in this game and it worked really well," said Dunn. The Elks top players were Taniece Redden, Vanessa Dunn and Ty Segure. They also had a freshman, Courtney Rodgers, come off the bench for the game. "Coming off the bench, I had a freshman, Rodgers. She got a couple of really nice blocks and I was really proud of her," said Dunn. Redden scored 14 points, obtained five rebounds and two steals. Dunn added 15 points, had three assists and made four rebounds. Segure racked up 16 points, seven rebounds, and made eight steals. Elkton's strong offense aided team's ultimate goal of beating Bo Manor. "We scouted them quite a bit. We broke down film for the last two days and worked on our forward play. We were going to score with our forwards," said Dunn. Bo Manor use of pressure was not enough to combat with Elktons offense. "We had a little trouble with their pressure for a little but, we stepped up," said Vanessa Dunn. Coach Dunn knew that this game against Bo Manor was going to be difficult and a close one. "They (Bo Manor) always play tough. They're a good team and they are always capable of closing the gap and the one thing I can always count on is that they are going to be tough," said Dunn. The coach said he plans to continue to improve and work on playing the bench. Comments are closed.
