Noah Juergens scored the go-ahead basket on a short bank shot with 25 seconds to go as the Rising Sun boys basketball team topped Tome 42-39 Wednesday. On the ensuing possession, the Tigers' Curtis Cox knocked an inbounds pass into the hands of teammate Will Farrington. Farrington sank both free throws with 18.4 seconds left to up Rising Sun's lead to 42-39. Needing a three-pointer to tie it, a Tome player instead drove to the basket and missed a short shot. Rising Sun was called for a foul on the rebound, the Tigers' sixth team foul of the half. Tome inbounded the ball from underneath its own basket with 2.8 seconds left and Juergens stole the pass to secure the victory. Farrington led the Tigers with 17 points and Curtis Cox added 11. Joe Foley recorded 16 for Tome including his team's first 13 points. Foley had outscored Rising Sun 13-9 before the Tigers embarked on an 11-1 run. Farrington supplied the last seven points of the spurt to put his team ahead 20-14 with 2:52 left in the second quarter. The Titans' Greg Gelmann hit a pair of three-pointers to help Tome narrow the gap to 23-22 at halftime. The Titans took a 31-25 lead in the third quarter before Bryce Brown buried a three-pointer and Farrington scored to trim the Tigers' deficit to 31-30 heading into the final eight minutes. A three-pointer by Michael Lucatamo put Tome ahead 36-32 but Farrington and Juergens both responded with a basket to tie it. Lucatamo knocked down another three-pointer to provide the Titans with a 39-36 edge with 2:13 left. Farrington converted both ends of a one-and-one with 47.6 seconds remaining to get his team within one. Rising Sun had committed just four team fouls at that point. The Tigers' fifth team foul came with 41.3 remaining. Rising Sun would have needed to commit two more team fouls to send Tome to the free throw line. They did something much better, forcing a five-second violation to get the ball back. Seventeen seconds later, Juergens scored what proved to be the game-winner. Comments are closed.
