Havre de Grace claimed its third straight football region title by defeating Bohemia Manor 48-14 Friday night. The host Warriors tallied two touchdowns in a 49-second span of the first quarter and Jordan Day returned two punts for scores in the second quarter as the hosts built a 34-7 cushion at the break.
Havre de Grace went on top with a 16-yard TD pass from quarterback Alex Gresock to Christian Penrow with 6:11 left in the first quarter. After the Eagles turned the ball over on a fumbled lateral, Jasai Stansbury scored on an eight-yard run with 5:22 to go in the opening quarter. Clay Harris kicked a 28-yard field goal to up the advantage to 17-0 early in the second stanza. Day scored on a 40-yard punt return with 8:43 left before halftime. The Bohemia Manor punter had to take a few extra steps to avoid the rush and booted a low line drive. Day, running back at the snap to help with the blocking, alertly snagged the ball and scurried up the middle for a touchdown. Bohemia Manor got on the board on a 20-yard scoring strike from Johnny Knight to Jake Harris but Havre de Grace scored 10 points in the final 67 seconds of the half to break it wide open. After Harris kicked a 21-yard field goal, Day returned a punt 35 yards for a TD in a play similar to his score eight minutes earlier to give the Warriors a 34-7 lead at intermission. Stansbury added a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to make it 48-7. Bohemia Manor scored in the fourth quarter on a pass from Ryan Connolley to Cameron Garcia. Havre de Grace travels to Baltimore Saturday to take on Dunbar at 1 p.m. in the state semifinals. Comments are closed.
