Father 1 Daughter 1. The Battle of the Bergs is tied. Coach Matt Berg's Harford Tech girls soccer team topped Mikaela Berg's Rising Sun squad 1-0 Monday, September 28. The Cobras got the eventual game-winner early in the second half when Lindsey Sewell scored off a corner kick from Emma O'Berry.
Tech goalie Hannah Warner made nine saves. "The first half they were fine," Rising Sun coach Dylan Aiman said of his team. "We outplayed them and couldn't finish. Then we got tired and then the passes got sloppy. The second half, they score, and then we have to change our gameplan and try to go to goal more often. Then that's when the game gets a little ugly. You've got to play the long ball. They scored on their opportunity. We didn't score on our numerous opportunities. That's the difference." It was the first loss of the season for the Tigers (2-1) after opening with wins over Elkton and North East. Aiman didn't blame the fact Rising Sun was taking a step up in competition. "I just think our girls need an attitude adjustment," the coach said. "They need to figure out that they don't beat people because of who they are. They've got to put in on the field. They've got to finish. We clearly outplayed them but our weakness is we can't defend corners and we're struggling finishing." Last season, Mikaela Berg scored the game's only goal as the Tigers upended her father's team 1-0. Comments are closed.
