Elkton girls basketball team cruised to a 54-21 victory over Rising Sun on Thursday, December 8. "I couldn't be happier with the way we performed. The team came ready to play this year. We are prepared to take every team one at a time, and we are going to give everything we got, win or lose and we know we are not going to win them all but we are going to try and be competative about it," said Elkton head coach Chris Dunn."We know we are undersized and we set out to be quick and score quick on transitions and we don't want to get into a slug fest." Elktons defense made it hard for Rising Sun to move the ball. "Their press defense was intense. We had a hard time moving the ball across half court. They are quick and they work well together," said Rising Sun head coach Kathy Stoudt. "We need to improve on limiting our turnovers and attacking pressure defenses. That will come with experience." Rising Sun was able to score some shots and play offense well. "When we were able to get in a half court offense, we took good shots and had a high scoring percentage," said Stoudt. Stoudt was pleased with some of her key players. "Maddie Foard made some key shots, while Megan Brown and Bella Barbato scored and rebounded well," she said. Some of Elktons top players on offensive was Vanessa Dunn and Taniece Redden. "The transition passing off their passes was really quick," said Dunn. "we had some really long range "3's" (three point shots) going on with Taniece," said Dunn. Ty Segure was also the teams top defensive player of the night. "Ty was wonderful on defense. Her hands are super quick," said Dunn. Elkton played well as a team and came together to make accurate passes and move the ball throughout the court. "As a team we moved the ball around really well and we worked the inside a lot," said Dunn. The team also has practiced on making accurate shots, especially three pointers. "We have been working on shooting at every single practice," she said. Dunn knows how Rising Sun feels after he had to start out with a brand new and young team two years ago. "I thought Rising Sun was a wonderful young team, I was exactly in their position two years ago and if they keep building the way there building, they've got a bright future ahead of them, it will be their turn soon," said Dunn. Dunn led Elkton with 15 points and made eight assists. Redden racked up 13 points and Segure added eight points and four assists. Foard scored six points and collected four rebounds for Rising Sun. Barbato had six points and six rebounds. Brown added five points and collected nine rebounds. Dunn was proud of his teams outcome and how they played. "The "3's"(three point shots) were working, our speed and passing," he said. Comments are closed.
