The Rising Sun boys basketball team outlasted Tome 52-49 in a back-and-forth game Monday night, December 10. Trailing 44-39 in the fourth quarter, the Tigers went on a 12-1 run to turn the tide. Mike Fox made a free throw and a basket then Trent Moore tied it. Fox buried a three-pointer to put Rising Sun ahead for good, 47-44, with 3:49 remaining.
After Tome hit a free throw, Xavier Flowers scored on a putback and Eric Farrell and Fox each made a free throw to give the Tigers a 51-45 edge with 61 seconds to go. The Titans did not go away quietly. Nate Pierce scored and Lance Wunder knocked down two free throws to narrow the gap to 51-49 with 38 ticks left. Tome had three chances to tie or take the lead in the final 30 seconds as Rising Sun continued to struggle from the foul line. Tome turned the ball over on an errant pass then committed a traveling violation with nine seconds remaining. Moore made the second of two free throws with three seconds left and Tome's desperation heave at the buzzer was way off the mark. Moore paced the Tigers with 15 points. Fox finished with nine, eight of those points coming in the decisive fourth quarter spurt. Dane Letterman and Trey Walker each added eight and Flowers chipped in six. Tome showed some resiliency and managed to stay within striking distance. Down seven, the Titans tallied the final five points of the first half. Rising Sun reeled off the first eight points of the second half to pad its lead to 29-19. The Tigers led by 11 on two separate occasions before Tome's Mark LoPresto got hot from the outside. LoPresto hit two straight three-pointers and started the fourth quarter with another trifecta to slice the deficit down to 39-38. Wunder and Pierce scored back-to-back buckets and Loch Williams made two free throws to cap Tome's 17-1 run with 6:23 to go. That's when Fox and Rising Sun regained control and staved off Tome's comeback attempt in the waning seconds. Comments are closed.
