The Rising Sun boys soccer team was ousted from the region tournament with a 3-1 second round loss to visiting Fallston Tuesday, October 28. The Cougars took a 2-1 lead on a penalty kick goal two minutes into the second half and then added an insurance tally in the waning minutes. Rising Sun nearly struck first by Michael Catena's header hit the post in the 10th minute.
Fallston took the lead 10 minutes later when a long free kick taken by Dalton Riedlbauer caromed off a Rising Sun defender and into the goal. The Tigers tied it late in the half when Cody Thomas headed home a cross by Jeff Haley. The turning point came quickly in the second half when a Rising Sun player was whistled for a foul in the box. "I think it was a bad call," Ulrich said. "I think it was a penalty but it shouldn't have been a PK. I don't think it was a goal-scoring opportunity. I think it was a bad call. Nothing I can do about it.We got ourselves in the situation." The Cougars' Matt Walker converted to make it 2-1. Rising Sun was able to put some pressure on the Fallston defense in attempt to get the equalizer but did not have any outstanding opportunities. Jordan Puglisi put the game away with a blast from the top center of the penalty area, ending the season for a Rising Sun squad that had 11 seniors. "I'm totally proud of my boys, the way we played," said Ulrich. "I think we belonged with the top teams in Cecil and Harford counties. And I think we proved that. I kind of wanted a little more for this team because it's a great team." Comments are closed.
