PHOTOS: Chesapeake City Little League claims 8-10 softball district title with win over Perryville7/2/2018
Chesapeake City earned the 8-10 softball District 5 title with an 8-3 triumph over Perryville Sunday morning in Havre de Grace. Chesapeake City stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning to take command. The first four batters – Leci Cox, Payton Losten, Kylee Bergman, and Camille Mattucci – all put the ball in play and reached on errors. Bergman scored the third run of the inning on a double steal.
Perryville got one back in the home half of the first. Savannah Reedy reached on an error, stole second, and advanced to third on Jocelyn Rebman's groundout to first, and scored on Gabrielle Parker's groundout to second. Chesapeake City countered with three more in the second inning. Lauren Pressler drew a one-out walk and went to third when Cox followed with a single that caromed off the strip of wood which serves as the right field foul line. Losten delivered a two-run single to right and eventually scored when Bergman was retired on a grounder to third. Perryville got back in the game by tallying twice in the third. Reedy walked with one out. Rebman drilled a two-run inside-the-park homer on a hard hit ball up the middle that scooted past the center fielder and rolled to the fence. Again, Chesapeake City responded right away. Alissa Broderdorp laid down a bunt and was ruled safe at first on a close play. After an out, Cox reached on an error to put runners on second and third. With two outs, Bergman belted a clutch two-run triple over the head of the right fielder to make it 8-3. That was more than enough support for Losten. Chesapeake City lost its second round game 1-0 to Perryville and had to play seven games in the nine-day tournament. Losten pitched each game and along with her defense gave up a total of just nine runs in those seven games. Click HERE to see photos from Saturday's game between the two teams. Comments are closed.
