After having a slow start to their season, Bo Manor boys basketball team captured a 62-58 victory over Rising Sun on January 17. "It feels good to have a win, they've practiced hard. We are in a good spot right now and we always do our best in February," said Bo Manor head coach Sandy Grimes. "The first win of the season feels really good. On a road game to come out and get the win, it felt good," said Bo Manor player Cameron Garcia. The Tigers took control in the first when Casey Baker added eight points which gave them a two point advantage. In the second, Rising Sun held its lead over Bo Manor by scoring a total of 22 points, bringing the score to 38-30 at the end of the first half. "I thought we were pretty much in control of the game and we just made some mistakes. Things happen and (we) made a few mistakes that just cost us in the end," said Rising Sun head coach Don Passenant. Even though the Tigers scored an additional eight points in the third, the Eagles were able to pull ahead by outscoring the Tigers with 15 points. "We played better "D" (defense), I was really disappointed in the first half, we scored the same amount the points keeping them (Rising Sun) to 22. So I let them know that you can't take a break on "D" (defense)," said Grimes. Bo Manor's defense and making multiple steals allowed them to sustain their lead in the fourth. "We played hard defense and shut them down. We shot the same amount of points on both sides and were able to close them out and get the rebound," said Garcia. "They played really good defense. It was a good pressure defense, they made some good steals and we played some good defense too and getting the steals also. I think it went both ways, it was a back and fourth game, it was a great game and we were just on the wrong side," said Passenant. The Eagles top players were Garcia, Quron Duker, and Malik Allen. Garcia racked up 18 points, made six steals and five rebounds. Duker scored 17 points and made nine rebounds. Allen added ten points and had six rebounds. The Tigers' Casey Baker racked up 20 points, had five rebounds, six assists and six steals. Nate McCullough scored 12 points, made five turnovers and two steals. David Moore added 12 points and made five rebounds. Coach Grimes wants to strengthen his teams defense and continue to work on ball movement. "If we don't work on getting the ball inside a little bit, (moving it) inside and out and take the 3's (three point shots) every now and then. You can't live on the perimeter," said Grimes. For Rising Sun, Coach Passenant would like to improve his team’s ball handling skills. "I know we are going to correct the mistakes, we learn from experience. We just got to work on taking care of the ball," said Passenant. Comments are closed.
