Perryville's Senior Division softball team went out in style. Melissa Savin and Aleshia Shires combined on a no-hitter as Perryville topped Delaware 7-0 in last Wednesday. Perryville went 1-3 in Mid-Atlantic pool play and did not qualify for the east region semifinals. In the win over Delaware, Savin and Shires teamed to retire 14 straight batters in one stretch and 18 of 19.
Sierra Johnson was 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Kaitlyn Griffin was 2 for 4 including a double off the left-center field fence and scored twice. Carly White also was 2 for 4. Sarah Chandler was 1 for 2 with an RBI and scored a run. Kadi Davis and Brooke Reynolds both had a hit and scored a run. Hanna Downes had a hit and drove in a run and Erin Murphy also had an RBI. New York nipped Perryville 3-1 Tuesday, July 28. Shires allowed just four runners to get as far as second base but New York came up with a pair of clutch two-out hits. Perryville scored its lone run in the sixth. Reynolds singled with one out, moved to third on a two-out single by White, and scored on a Jordyn Pollitt hit. White finished with two hits on the day and Jules Jones contributed a hit. "We just were not able to get over the hump again as we were in every game just couldn't get the hit to get us out front early and make the other teams play catch up," Perryville manager Mike Phillips said via email. "The consistency at the plate was not there this year. There were no overwhelming pitchers up there but we still were unable to put any strong innings together which surprised me a lot. Our pitching and defense were there all but one inning so I could not have asked for more on that side of the ball. To finish off strong against Delaware was nice to see and a no-hitter at any level is quite an accomplishment so Melissa and Aleshia should be quite proud." Comments are closed.
