The Perryville boys basketball team hung tough with a powerful Joppatowne squad for three quarters before the Mariners pulled away for a 57-39 triumph Monday night, February 22. The host Panthers led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter before the Mariners embarked on a 13-2 run to take a 10-point lead. Undaunted, Perryville tallied 10 straight points to tie it with Tyleke Johnson scoring four points, Nick Roberts hitting a three-pointer and Tréshawn Warren knocking down two free throws. Joppatowne led 27-24 at the break. "We played a good first half," Perryville coach Charles Givens Sr. said. "We were down by three and I don't know what happened. We never recovered. We came out and we made turnovers and there went our demise." The Panthers tied the game at 31 on a basket by Johnson with 4:30 left in the third quarter before Joppatowne tallied the last eight points of the period. It was Perryville's last regular season game. "I don't know if it helps us [prepare for the playoffs] or not," he said. "It's just a game that provides more repetition for the things that we've done since the beginning of the year. Some people did well with it. Some didn't. But I thought our team played well against them. I've seen [Joppatowne] play two times and maybe they were surprised and maybe we were overachievers, but again, for a half, we played very well." Tyleke Johnson paced Perryville with 12 points and Warren added 11. Comments are closed.
