The Rising Sun girls basketball team never trailed in a 45-38 triumph over visiting Bohemia Manor Tuesday night, January 19. Lexi Osborne scored half of her 20 points in the first quarter as the Tigers took a 14-7 lead. Bohemia Manor scored the last six points of the quarter to get within 14-13, but Rising Sun opened the second quarter with an 8-2 run and led by at least five the rest of the way. Osborne said she wasn't surprised the Tigers were able to control the game from start to finish. "We really wanted this game," the senior guard said. "It's just an exciting game between Bo Manor and us. It always has been and it probably always will be. There's just so much hype in between us. Last year we were both great teams and it was a big competition. This year, as well." Rising Sun hounded Eagles' star point guard Kayla Thompson, face guarding her all over the court. Freshman Kira Watson deftly handled the difficult assignment with help from Jess Borchardt and Maddie Foard. "We heard some success that other county teams had doing that," Rising Sun coach Kathy Stoudt said. "Kira Watson's the perfect player to do it. She has stamina. She's quick. She's smart. She's been playing JV but I brought her up for that specific purpose and she executed it perfectly…Everybody executed perfectly. The whole team. It was a great team effort, really. Rising Sun's Abby Mack collected 16 points and nine rebounds. Kaytlen Nugent grabbed 14 rebounds and Liz Zatalava had 12 boards. "It was one of our better games all around," said Stoudt. "I feel like we missed a lot of easy shots we could've made. We protected the ball but we had to change philosophies. Last year, we were push, push, push. Now we're like, calm down, settle down, use the clock. It's working for us right now." Comments are closed.
