Even though Edgewood girls basketball team defeated Rising Sun 49-25 on December 20, Tigers head coach Kathy Stoudt is proud of her young team for making an effort. "At one point you could tell that we were deflated and we talked to them about we never quit," said Stoudt. The Tigers played well as a team. "I think when we anticipated their (Edgewood) passes and got steals, that always helps create offense for us. In the fourth quarter we were able to push the ball a little bit more and we had more confidence and were able to score some lay-ups," said Stoudt. The Tigers top player of the night both offensively and defensively was Maddie Foard. She made 11 points, four steals, and four rebounds. "She (showed) senior leadership, she never quit and she was the poster person for us. It was just awesome what she did" said Stoudt. "She had 11 all together, she had eight in the final quarter and she out scored their team (Edgewood) eight to six in the final quarter," said Stoudt.
Rising Sun's top rebounder was Megan Brown with 12. She also added four points. Bella Barbato added six points. Edgewood's use of speed and experience helped the team gain the lead throughout and ultimately their win. "They're fast, they're quick and they had a lot of juniors and seniors. You could tell they have played basketball for a while together and they were just more experienced," said Stoudt. Stoudt plans for her team to grow and build on what they have learned so far and to keep pushing forward. "As a team we had a lot of good things we did. The first quarter we came out and had a lot of defensive stops. So, here and there we saw a lot of bright spots. We have to work on fundamentals, we are young and we need to continue growing as a team and never give up," she said. Comments are closed.
