Rising Sun softball coach Rusty Moore had a simple explanation for his team's 3-1 loss to La Plata in a state semifinal game Wednesday at Bachman Park.
Rising Sun's softball team heeded the advice of Spanish philosopher George Santayana.
Santayana once famously said, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." The Tigers made certain the past was prologue. A year after squandering a two-run seventh inning lead in the region title game, Rising Sun blanked host Queen Anne's 4-0 Monday, May 21, behind a complete game shutout by Molly Dill. The Perryville softball team advanced to the second round of the region tournament by nipping Havre de Grace 3-2 Thursday afternoon.
Molly Dill tossed a complete game as the Rising Sun softball team topped North East 5-1 Monday night, April 30.
Nicole DiGiambattista clubbed one home run and came within a few feet of two more as the Perryville softball team routed Rising Sun 12-4 Wednesday afternoon, April 17.
DiGiambattista finished with four RBIs as the Panthers gained a measure of revenge against a Tiger team that had staged a seventh inning rally to take the first meeting between the schools. "We just kind of kept our focus, which is playing like kind of laid back," DiGiambattista said. "I feel like the first game against Rising Sun we were kind of like uptight and [in the second meeting], once we were in it we found our groove. We strung some hits together." Alexa Hopper's Bohemia Manor softball teammates and coaches bestowed her with the ironic nickname "Junkyard" because they worried the sophomore lefty pitcher was too nice.
Perryville didn't find Hopper so delightful Friday afternoon. Hopper hurled 5 2/3 innings of three-hit ball to earn the victory as the undefeated Eagles downed the host Panthers 3-0. "We're the comeback kids!," Rising Sun's Alexa Hull exclaimed in the middle of her team's decisive seventh inning rally.
Trailing 2-0 and down to their last out, the Tigers tallied seven runs to pull out a 7-2 triumph over host Perryville Monday, March 26. Bo Manor tops Perryville to propel them closer to the state championship game. Freshman Maddie Penta pitched a no hitter into the sixth inning and struck out 17 batters in a complete game, defeating visiting Perryville 8-0 in the 1A North Region Section I Final on Wednesday, May 17, giving them the ticket into the regional finals. The Eagles (17-2) eliminated the Panthers (12-6) from the playoffs this year ending their chances to be repeat 1A state champions. Bo Manor will now host McDonough in the next play off game. "My screwball and my changeup was really working for me today," said Penta, who didn't allow a hit until Jordan Pollitt singled in the sixth. "My changeup had them really off balance and the screwball was in on their hands and they didn't know what to do with it." After striking out Perryville's starting line up in the top of the first, the Eagles went to work against Perryville senior pitcher Emily Phillips. Anna Tidaback hit a single, making it to first base with two outs and Taylor Abshagan came up to the plate and blasted a home run to center field that brought Bo Manor a 2-0 lead. North East softball team overcame visiting Elkton 7-5, on May 8.
The Indians scored three runs in the bottom of the first with a home run from Delaney McDilda and back to back doubles by Kaitlyn Stewart and Jess Choplinsky, giving them the lead early on. Perryville softball defeated Rising Sun in a 2-0 victory on May 1. Brooke Reynolds hit a single in the top of the second, putting a man on first. Reynolds took the opportunity to steal to second opening up first base. Emily Phillips was walked putting men on first and second. Amber Keene was next up to bat and bunted the ball, was out at first but allowed Reynolds to score the first run for the Panthers. |
