Host Rising Sun entered the week as the lone undefeated team in the Little League Maryland District 5 Senior Division baseball tournament.
Rising Sun scored seven runs in the first inning and tacked on six more in the second on the way to a 15-1 five-inning win over Havre de Grace Sunday afternoon. North East Little League's 8-10 baseball All-Stars opened the District 5 tournament with a 12-0 triumph over Havre de Grace 0 in four innings Wednesday night, June 20.
Kolby Dunn tossed a shutout and scored two runs. Kenny Kohler doubled and scored twice. The North East baseball team advanced to the region title game with another come-from-behind victory over a county rival.
The Indians regained the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth and added three insurance runs in the seventh on the way to a 10-7 triumph over Elkton Tuesday, May 15. Don't call it a comeback.
Call it a crazy comeback. Blood dripping from his nose following a raucous celebration, while trying to choke back tears, North East's Colt Price understandably could not control his emotions as he attempted to describe his team's remarkable comeback victory over Rising Sun Saturday afternoon. "We got down," Price said. "In baseball, you don't want to drop your head when you get down, but we got down a lot and it was looking rough for us. The last inning, these dudes, family, bro. They fought to the end, man. It's crazy." The North East baseball overcame an early four-run deficit to defeat host Rising Sun 8-6 Monday afternoon, April 30.
Rising Sun lost a baseball game Friday.
It was still a successful night in every meaningful way. Proceeds benefitted the Joshua Hamer Memorial Scholarship Fund. Hamer, a Rising Sun-area native who played baseball at John Carroll, died in a vehicle collision in March, 2017. Josh's mother, Jennifer, threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the John Carroll’s 6-4 comeback victory. The Rising Sun baseball team scored six runs in the top of the second inning en route to a 9-2 triumph over host North East Monday, April 9.
North East baseball team downed Rising Sun in a 5-1 victory on Monday, May 15. The Indians Colt Price threw a complete game and only gave up three hits and only allowed a run. Chase Hollister hit a three run homer in the bottom of the fifth to put the Indians up (5-1). Hollister also had three RBI's. "Defense played well and we got a timely hit from Chase Hollister (which was) a three run, home run, which put us up five to one. That was a big point in the ball game, right there to get a four run lead," said North East head coach Kevin Brown. The home opener for the Panthers proved to be a letdown.
The Golden Elks defeated the Panthers 8-2 on Tuesday, March 21. Rising Sun's 10-11 baseball All-Stars rallied again.
This time, the comeback came up a little short. Four County Little League held on for a 17-15 victory Thursday night at Eder Park to knock Rising Sun out of the state tournament. |
