The Panthers pummeled Joppatowne 25-13, 25-10, 25-5 Monday, November 4.
Morgan Tennant collected 10 assists, seven service points, five kills, and, two digs. Emily Merklinger recorded seven kills, six aces, and two blocks. Teri Wennersten added 10 service points and six aces. Kylie Shiflett supplied 16 service points, six aces, and to digs. Perryville will host Bohemia Manor Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the district final (region semifinal). The Perryville football team's losing streak reached four with a 32-28 loss to host Aberdeen Friday night.
Trailing 32-22 with 7:55 left, the Panthers got within four on a two-yard plunge by quarterback Cam Cunningham with 6:37 remaining. Cunningham tried to run for the two-point conversion but was stopped short. Perryville got a huge break on the ensuing possession when Aberdeen faked a punt but a pass was dropped by a wide-open receiver. The Rising Sun girls and boys cross country teams qualified for the state meet by virtue of their performances at the 2A east region meet at Fair Hill Thursday.
The Tiger girls finished fourth in the team standings. Autumn Russell, who also earned a state berth last year as a freshman, paced Rising Sun with an eighth place finish. Emma Wheeler was 24th, one spot ahead of teammate Kiona Brady. Cate Dymowski was 33rd with Carley Cooperman 38th, Arianna Wheeler 39th, and Heather Marsico 41st. Elkton's Lena Muldoon (seventh) and North East's Kaitlyn Henderson (ninth) both qualified for the state meet. The Rising Sun boys finished fifth in the team standings. Joey Hurm paced the Tigers with a 21st place finish followed by Damion Bishoff (25th), Phil Hurm (26th), Seth McKeown (30th), Nathan Groff (45th), John Mangold (49th), and Wyatt Raymond (51st). Elkton finished fourth to earn a state berth. Seth Martinez was sixth overall to lead the Elks' solid showing. Zaavan Kenenske was 12th followed by Sam Wheel (22nd), Patrick Gerhard (24th), Shawn Halerz (27th), Tim Taylor (36th), and Rocco Defelice (43rd). The MPSSAA meet will be held Saturday at McDaniel College. The 2A girls race will start at 2 p.m. with the 2A boys race slated for 3 p.m. |
