Emma Cease captured the girls race to lead the Rising Sun cross country team to a win over Elkton while the Elks' Cameron Spaeth won the boys event to propel his team to a triumph at Fair Hill Tuesday, September 18.
Rising Sun field hockey coach Katie Keyes finally got her message across.
"We need to get rid of the idea that everything needs to be perfect, and just do it," Keyes has repeatedly told her team. Tigers' midfielder Biz Hurm heeded that advice and the result led to Julia Herrmann's goal as Rising Sun recorded its first win of the season by nipping North East 1-0 at Calvert Regional Park Monday, September 17. Abigail Vogelsong tallied twice including the eventual game-winner with 11:53 remaining as the Tome field hockey team nipped host Perryville 2-1 Friday afternoon.
"I got a nice assist again from Laidan Ryan and I just tapped it in," Vogelsong said of her second score. "It's all a team effort." The Susquehanna Bowl is staying on the west side of the river.
Havre de Grace claimed its fourth straight victory in the rivalry with Perryville by downing the Panthers 45-15 Thursday night at Harris Stadium. The host Warriors capitalized on Perryville's inexperience and lack of depth to dominate all three facets of the game and score 45 unanswered points following the Panthers' strong start. For starters, it wasn't half bad.
The youthful Rising Sun boys soccer team started strong but faded a bit in the second half as North Harford tallied twice after the break for a 2-0 triumph Thursday afternoon at Calvert Regional Park. Tori Pietuszka put herself in position to succeed.
She's the first to acknowledge that what happened next was simply a case of good fortune. Pietuszka scored midway through the first half to help Rising Sun edge Elkton 1-0 at Calvert Regional Park Wednesday afternoon, September 12. The Perryville volleyball team topped C. Milton Wright 25-12, 25-9, 25-9 Tuesday afternoon, September 11.
Rebecca Holman supplied seven kills and five aces. Alex Leslie and Gracey Stevens each collected five kills and three aces. Jordan Carr contributed 19 assists and four aces. The Perryville girls soccer team (1-2) picked up its first win of the season by edging Elkton 2-1 Monday, September 10.
The Elkton football team overcame three early fumbles and a plethora of penalties to pull away for a 28-10 triumph over visiting North East Friday night.
The Elks (2-0) fumbled on their first three possessions and fell behind 3-0 on a 27-yard field goal by the Indians' Drake Bare with 5:08 left in the first quarter. Elkton responded right away. Nolan Null connected with Tashawn Watters for a 49-yard scoring strike to put the hosts ahead 7-3 just 55 seconds after the North East field goal. With a relatively young team, Rising Sun volleyball coach Rich Wilson wasn't sure what to expect from his squad this season.
Even after a lopsided season-opening victory over Patterson Mill Thursday, September 6, Wilson remains uncertain how good the Rising Sun can become. The Tigers served a whopping 35 aces and trounced the host Huskies 25-7, 25-3, 25-3. |
