It was well worth the wait for the Perryville field hockey team. The Panthers' matchup with Rising Sun was originally scheduled for September 11, but was postponed by heat. Then the Monday, September 23, game was delayed again while the two teams had to wait over 100 minutes for referees to arrive after a scheduling mixup. The Cougars struck early on a 20-yard scoring strike from Brendan Weinhold to Brad Rose on the second play from scrimmage. Andrew Monaghan added another score midway through the first quarter to make it 14-0. The Tigers trailed 26-0 at halftime. Down 40-0, Rising Sun got on the scoreboard on a 27-yard TD run by Alex Billings with four minutes left in the game. Billings finished with 40 yards on 10 carries. Quarterback Benn Lukk completed 11 of 21 passes for 127 yards. Ryan Barrick hauled in four passes for 48 yards. Will Barton had four receptions for 32 yards. Dan Willert made four solo tackles and assisted on six others, Kyle Miller made four solo tackles and added four assists. Kyle Lammey was in on 13 tackles. There is good news for the Tigers, who were outscored 113-19 in their first three games. The non-conference portion of their schedule is complete and Susquehanna Division play commences Friday night at 7 when Joppatowne visits Tiger Drive. Carrie Brighthaupt scored 32 seconds into the second overtime period to propel the Perryville field hockey team to a 2-1 triumph over visiting Elkton Friday afternoon. Panthers goalie Lacie Flores made a couple of huge saves in the first OT session to keep her team alive. Brooke Hornberger had an assist. Perryville had taken a 1-0 lead on a first-half goal by Kyleigh Knell. Elkton tied it in the opening minute of the second half on a goal by Erin DePaul off an assist from Emily Moore. Brianna Bailey tallied twice including the overtime game-winner as the Rising Sun field hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit to down visiting Edgewood 4-3 last Wednesday afternoon. Bailey scored 3:40 into the contest to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead before Edgewood recorded three unanswered goals to go ahead 3-1 with 9:16 left in the game. Megan Haraldsson answered 30 seconds later and Mallory Tiffin tied it with 7:16 to go. Bailey scored 2:24 into overtime to end the game. Mai Hall and Emily Easter each picked up an assist. The Rising Sun girls soccer team tallied twice in the second half to top host North East 2-0 Tuesday night, September 17.
Jillian Seay put Rising Sun in front 3:44 into the second stanza with a shot from just inside the top of the penalty area. North East was whistled for a handball in the box with 25:09 remaining and Taylor Mocknis converted to make it 2-0. Ciera Bartz notched the shutout behind a solid team defensive effort anchored by Mocknis, Jackie Barbon, Taylor Allen, and Valerie Bragg. The Perryville and Bo Manor cross country teams approached last Tuesday's meet in Perryville Community Park differently than North Harford. The Hawks, preparing for a big meet Saturday, won both individual races and the team competitions. The Cobras prevailed 25-19, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19. Morgan Tennant paced the Panthers with 18 assists and nine aces. Emily Merklinger recorded 10 kills. Caitlin Davidson contributed 12 digs and Kaylan Smith added six. Carrie Brighthaupt, Hannah Seibert, and Merve Akbay each scored a goal and Brighthaupt and Brooke Hornberger each recorded an assist. Lacie Flores made two saves. The Eagles nipped the Panthers 1-0 Monday, September 9 despite the fact Perryville had a 25-5 advantage in shots on goal. Reigning state champion Ty Franks of Bo Manor captured the boys individual title at the Maryland Track & Trail Invitational at Fair Hill Saturday. Franks (16:32) powered past Nikolai Rhodes of Queen Anne's (16:42) in the final quarter mile. Perryville turned in an impressive third place finish in the team standings.
